I actually have the time to update this dying blog today, because there really wasn't a lot of work and we were let off at 1.40pm. Don't ever underestimate that measly 35 mins more. It makes one helluva difference. But then again, it's the first day of school. Infer.I'm seriously considering to convert my blog into an actual foodie blog.Yes, you heard me right, a foodie blog. Everytime i itch to write about some new hawker centre or restaurant that i just visited, i have to stop because i'm afraid of boring everybody to tears. But today, i must get this off my chest. People who don't want to read on, you can stop here. Haha. Here it comes. At Purvis Street and its adjacent streets, there are rows and rows of Hainanese Cuisine restaurants, but only a few , perhaps , are authentic. Being Hainanese, obviously i love Hainanese food, form Chicken Rice to Pork Chops. My family , over the past few years, have discovered certain restaurants at Purvis Street, which sells the best authentic Hainanese fare ever. I'm going to introduce 3 restaurants 1) The YetCon Restaurant 2) Chin Chin Eating House 3) Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice.According to my father ( i'm not sure if it's true ), he said that the founder of this YetCon Restaurant actually knew my family. Meaning my grandparents lah. But that's not surprising, on the accounts that the Hainanese are considered a minority dialect group in Singapore, and the entire Hainanese community is very close-knit. Anyway, this restaurant has an extremely long history. My father said that he and his siblings used to pester their parents to go there every Lunar New Year. Haha. They sell steamboat, but it's not the kind of steamboat with tom-yum soup and miso soup and goodness knows what. They just give you hot water, with a little pepper and salt, and as you cook the food in the water, the soup will absorb all its juices. Pretty cool eh? (: So the soup is naturally flavoured. Not reccomended for people who don't like simple fare . They just give you beef, eggs, vegetables, fishballs, pork, chicken etc. All the simple stuff.Secondly, Chin Chin Eating House. This place sells only authentic Hainanese traditional dishes, like Pork Chop, Prawn Paste Chicken, Braised Claypot Mutton, and of course, everyone's favourite Chicken Rice, just to name a few. Good for people who like having Chinese food the way you eat tzi char (:Lastly, Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice . I just went there yesterday. Hee. This particular restaurant is famous for this ginger. Pandan is added in, giving it a distinctive green colour. Stupid me thought it was wasabi the first time i saw it -.-'. Mix that into your chilli, dip chicken into it......SHIOK. Anyway, i don't normally like the steamed chicken they sell outside, but the steamed chicken here is really good. Ya , that's about it. Who wants to try? FYI, Purvis Street is around the City Hall - Bugis area. Near Raffles Hotel , Bras Basah Complex and the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library. Yup. That's all. Cheers! (:
